Vertical Lift Module (VLM)
These are vertical storage systems that can extend up to 20ft, 40ft, 60ft, or even up to 100ft tall with rows upon rows of products typically stored in plastic totes, trays, or on pallets. Goods can be stored in various configurations (for example, single deep per shelf or up to 10 or more positions deep in a storage lane).. Some systems have shuttles that roam horizontally or vertically through the racking system and once positioned in front of the assigned pick face, will retrieve the tote, and the pull it onto the shuttle where it is eventually transported to a workstation. Automated cranes are used for moving up and down single aisles to retrieve pallets of goods for drop off and delivery to work stations located outside of the racking systems.
